The Healthcare Plastics Recycling Council (HPRC) is pleased to announce we are now a supporter of RecyClass, a comprehensive cross-industry initiative that works to advance plastic packaging recyclability and to establish a harmonized approach towards recycled content calculation and its traceability in Europe.
RecyClass aims to drive the harmonization of the methodology and the guidelines across the EU, both for material recyclability and recycled content evaluation. Through a strong, scientifically grounded approach and strategic collaboration, RecyClass has the power to drive change and create a true circular economy for plastics.
Engaging with RecyClass supports HPRC’s overall mission to collaborate across the value chain to inspire and enable the healthcare community to implement viable, safe, and cost-effective recycling solutions for plastics products and packaging used in the delivery of healthcare. Becoming a supporter of RecyClass is a great opportunity for HPRC to collaborate with other industries, raise awareness and provide technical information about the design, manufacturing, use, and end-of-life options for healthcare plastics.
“We are excited to offer our support to the RecyClass Advisory Board and Technical Committees,” said Steven Meun, Director of HPRC Europe. “We hope that our expertise in healthcare plastics will add value and new knowledge to RecyClass’ activities and research. Additionally, we expect to learn and gain perspectives from other industries outside of healthcare.”
“We welcome HPRC and look forward to the insights they can bring to the table,” says Paolo Glerean, Chairman of RecyClass. “Their membership represents the entire value chain of healthcare plastics, which is valuable in helping to fill the gaps between different industry actors and bring the knowledge of recyclers right down to the packaging designers also in this part of the plastic industry.”
About HPRC
HPRC is a private technical coalition of industry peers across healthcare, recycling and waste management industries seeking to improve recyclability of plastic products within healthcare. HPRC is made up of brand leading and globally recognized members including Amcor, Baxter, BD, Boston Scientific, DuPont, Eastman Chemical Company, Freepoint Ecosystems, Gore Medical, Johnson & Johnson, Medtronic, Nelipak Healthcare Packaging, Paxxus, Ravago Recycling Group, Remington Medical, Sartorius, Sonoco Healthcare, Sterimed, Stryker, ThermoFisher Scientific, and Westfall Technik. The council convenes biannually at meetings hosted by an HPRC member that regularly include stakeholder engagement events and facility tours to further learning and knowledge sharing opportunities through first-hand demonstration of best practices in sustainable product and packaging design and recycling processes.
